Robert begins to write his songs in churches, while watching the people and their faith. To catch this atmosphere in the album, it needs many tries in several studios. At the beginning of February, the result is dark and atmospheric enough - like Mike Hedges, producer and sound-engineer explains: To most of the songs you could hang yourself. In the meantime Simon's brother Ric creates a minimalistic movie, 'Carnage Visors', that should replace the support-band during the upcoming tour. 'cause the tour-start gets closer and closer, Robert records the film-music alone with a bass and a drum-machine, whilst Simon fills him up with wine and Lol gives the beat! Porl Thompson, who studied design after his leaving, creates the cover for the single 'Primary' / 'Descent', that begins on March 28th to climb the charts to position 38. It's stopped by The Cure's second appearance on Top Of The Pops, 'cause they intentionally present themselves completely unconcerned.

Um diese Stimmung einzufangen, braucht es viele Anläufe in mehreren Studios, sehr zu Parrys (finanziellem) Leidwesen. Simon's Bruder Ric dreht währenddessen einen minimalistischen Film, der auf der folgenden Tour die Vorgruppe ersetzen soll, genannt 'Carnage Visors'. Da der Tourbeginn immer näher rückt, nimmt Robert die Filmmusik im Alleingang mit Baß und drum-machine auf, während Simon ihm Wein einflößt und Lol den Takt angibt! Porl Thompson, der nach seinem Weggang Design studiert hat, gestaltet das Cover für die Single 'Primary' / 'Descent', die am 28. März beginnt, die Charts bis Platz 38 zu erklimmen. Gestoppt wird sie durch den zweiten Auftritt in Top Of The Pops, da die drei sich absichtlich völlig gleichgültig geben.
The following album, 'Faith', shows a blurred picture of Bolton Abbey, that Porl creates from a photograph from Robert's childhood. On tour the mood gets more and more depressed, 'cause the set includes only one or two songs that are not from 'Faith' - Robert leaves the stage crying most of the time. In Freiburg only 32 fans watch their show, but the Werchter-Festival on July 5th is well known: when the concert-director wants the band to get off the stage after half an hour, they play a 15-minutes-version of 'A Forest' with a friendly ending:
Das nachfolgende Album, 'Faith', zeigt ein verwaschenes Bild der Bolton Abbey, das Porl nach einem Foto aus Roberts Kindheit kreierte. Auf Tour wird die Stimmung immer gedrückter, denn das Set besteht bis auf ein, zwei Stücke aus 'Faith'-Songs - Robert verläßt meist weinend die Bühne. In Freiburg kommen gerade mal 32 Zuschauer, doch das Werchter-Festival am 5. Juli ist berühmt: als der Konzertleiter die Band nach einer halben Stunde von der Bühne jagen will, folgt eine 15-Minuten-Version von 'A Forest' mit freundlichem Ende:
