Smith agrees to support the Banshees-tour as a guitarist, although Parry, despite the lack of success of the single, refuses to dissolve his contract. In the mean time Simon founds 'The Cry', later renamed to 'Fools Dance', and Lol produces 'And Also The Trees'; Robert releases an 'Animation'-single on his 'Dance Fools Dance'-label. The Royal Ballett offers him to write the music for 'Les Enfants Terible'. As a test Robert, Lol and Simon play 'Siamese Twins' with two dancers for BBC's Riverside Show - 'cause of the unsatisfactory result both projects die. Instead Smith and Severin found 'The Glove' and record with singer Jeanette Landray the album 'Blue Sunshine'.

For a gig in the Oxford RoadShow, Robert and Lol hire Andy Anderson as drummer and Derek Thompson as bass guitarist. When Robert notices how much he missed singing, he decides to go with Lol into the studio. Because he's experienced with electronical music, Steve Nye joins as sound-engineer, Porl designs the Cover and Pope the video. In July the 4-track-single 'The Walk' / 'The Upstairs Room' / 'The Dream' / 'Lament' is released, and although BBC refuses to play the video because of Lol's and Rob's make-up, 'The Walk' rises the charts to No. 12!

Da er Erfahrung mit elektronischer Musik hat, stößt Steve Nye als Toningenieur dazu, Porl designt das Cover und Pope das Video. Im Juli erscheint die 4-track-Maxi 'The Walk' / 'The Upstairs Room' / 'The Dream' / 'Lament', und obwohl BBC sich wegen Lol's und Rob's Make-up weigert, das Video zu spielen, erreicht 'The Walk' Platz 12 der Charts!
At the same time The Glove performs in the Riverside-show and The Cure two times in Top Of The Pops. At the first gig Porl Thompson helps out as bass guitarist, and from the second one Phil Tornally makes the quartets complete. After a warm-up-tour in England they head for America, and from there into the Parisian Studio Des Dames for 'The Lovecats', inspired by the cartoon 'Aristocats'. The song is released in October together with 'Speak My Language' and 'Mr. Pink Eyes', while Robert is touring with the Banshees and starts to work on the next album. At the Christmas-special of Top Of The Pops with The Cure and The Banshees he forgets the lyrics of 'Lovecats', and The Cure start to wear grey suits. Short time before Christmas, the last three singles including b-sides are put together as 'Japanese Whispers' in a kitsch-cover designed by Robert.

Beim ersten Mal springt Porl Thompson als Bassist ein, und ab dem zweiten Auftritt komplettiert Phil Tornally das Quartett. Nach einer Aufwärmrunde in England geht es nach Amerika, und von dort in's Pariser Studio Des Dames für 'The Lovecats', inspiriert durch den Zeichentrickfilm 'Aristocats'. Der Song wird im Oktober zusammen mit 'Speak My Language' und 'Mr. Pink Eyes' veröffentlicht, während Robert mit den Banshees auf Tour geht und beginnt, am nächsten Album zu schreiben. Kurz vor Weihnachten werden die letzten drei Singles samt B-Seiten in einem von Robert designten Kitsch-Cover zu 'Japanese Whispers' zusammengefasst.
